Laser Treatment- Pigmentation and Vascular
Pre-Treatment Care
1. Skin Preparation
Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanners for at least 2–4 weeks prior.
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily.
Discontinue retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or other strong exfoliants 5–7 days prior.
Stop any photosensitizing medications (if possible and approved by prescribing provider) at least 1–2 weeks before.
Notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores; prophylactic antivirals may be prescribed.
2. Medical Considerations
Disclose pregnancy, breastfeeding, medical implants, pacemakers, or clotting disorders.
Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs, fish oil, or high-dose vitamin E for 3–5 days pre-treatment (unless medically necessary) to minimize bruising.
Come with clean, product-free skin (no makeup, lotion, sunscreen).
3. Lifestyle Adjustments
Hydrate well in the days prior.
Avoid waxing, plucking, chemical peels, or other energy-based treatments in the area for at least 2 weeks before.
Shave treatment area (if applicable) 24 hours prior if hair may interfere.
Post-Treatment Care
1. Immediate Care (First 24–48 Hours)
Expect redness, swelling, warmth, or a sunburn-like sensation; this is normal.
Apply cool compresses as needed (avoid ice directly on skin).
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer.
Avoid hot tubs, saunas, intense workouts, or hot showers for 24–48 hours.
Do not pick, scratch, or rub treated areas.
2. Sun Protection
Strict sun avoidance for 2 weeks minimum.
Daily use of broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is mandatory.
Wear hats or protective clothing if outdoors.
3. Skin Healing
Hyperpigmented spots may darken before flaking/sloughing off; vascular lesions may look darker/bruised before fading.
Do not use retinoids, acids, or exfoliants until cleared by provider (usually 5–7 days).
Makeup can be used once skin is intact and irritation subsides (usually after 24 hours).
4. Long-Term Care
Multiple sessions may be needed for optimal results.
Maintain with consistent sun protection and a pigment-safe skincare regimen (vitamin C, niacinamide, hydroquinone if prescribed).
Report any blistering, crusting, or prolonged swelling immediately.
